They provide essential services such as daycare and information, campaign on issues like age discrimination and pensions, and work to influence public opinion and government policy about older people. The Leeds Benevolent Society for Single Ladies is a Leeds-based charity with funds to distribute. They aim to assist retired spinsters who may need financial or other support and are able to provide one-off financial assistance in certain circumstances. OPAL (Older Peoples Action in the Locality) Based in the Cookridge/Adel area, OPAL volunteers befriend older people, help them go shopping and on trips, assist in the office and contribute to a lively and thriving scheme. S.T.E.P. (Supporting The Elderly People) is a neighbourhood network scheme that covers the West Park, Far Headingley, Kirkstall and Meanwood areas. Join them for a cuppa and a chat, make new friends, have a game of cards/dominoes. Cost £1.00 per session including refreshments. For further information call 275 7988.
Trolly Bus Shopping Service. For those who can no longer use public transport or shop easily. Members are picked up on alternate Thursdays or Fridays between 9am and 2pm. Shopping lasts an hour and then you are dropped off at home. Cost £3.
